I can honestly say I walked into gastric bypass with my eyes wide open. I researched the heck out of it and asked a million questions, my poor surgeon, I knew that one of the reasons I would move forward with another weight loss surgery was to finally be rid of blood pressure meds, but I honestly didn’t know how long it would take to do it! Sure I asked in groups when other GBers came off their meds and the answers varied from in the hospital to 2-3 months after surgery. So I decided that I would stress about it, that it would probably take me a few months and I was just fine with that! I just knew that it would eventually happen. Then low and behold this morning hit and yes I jumped on the scale again this morning. And yes I am down another 1.5lbs, but I’ll be honest I didn’t even think about my BP until I went downstairs to check it, like I routinely do in the morning. Imagine my utter shock when it read 96/68!!!! I was SHOCKED!!!! Granted I feel amazing, but I just assumed it was from not eating all the crap that I was eating pre-op. Of course, I think it’s a combo of the surgery, weight loss, healthier eating AND BP. Thankfully, my cousin is a nurse practioner so I FB him this morning, you see I didn’t want to take my BP morning meds and pass out b/c my pressure was to low and with it being a Sunday, I had no idea who else to call. Thankfully he told me how to handle it and so I held off on my morning meds and am ½ my evening meds, of course I’ll continuously check my BP throughout the day, but at this point I feel pretty amazing!! This excites me because FINALLY I feel like I’m reaping the benefits of a weight loss surgery option. Today I’m thankful I’ve chosen to have the RNY!! I NEVER in a million years thought that I would have the bypass, but here I am and very excited to see the road that lies ahead for me….First stop, healthy BP!!!!
